Tuesday 19 January 2010 Entertainment Store Group and Nick Jr. are proud to announce that the co-creator of Dora the Explorer, Chris Gifford, is heading down under to attend the Australian premiere of NICK JR.’s DORA THE EXPLORER LIVE! SEARCH FOR THE CITY OF LOST TOYS in March 2010. Nick Jr.’s Dora the Explorer is the No.1 ranked preschool program watched by children under the age of 4 across all pay TV channels in Australia. This international phenomenon airs four times daily, captivating an audience of over 99,000 each day. Chris Gifford helped to create the character over 10 years ago, after watching his own kids, Katie (now 17) and Henry (now 14), struggle to “navigate” their world. “We wanted to create a show that teaches little kids problem-solving skills. Preschoolers are our least powerful citizens. They can't reach the light switch; they have trouble pouring the milk on their cereal. They're faced with obstacles throughout their day and it can get pretty discouraging. Problem-solving strategies like stopping to think, asking for help, and using what you know are modeled in every Dora show ... We are extremely proud of how successful we have been in getting kids off the couch, up and moving!” - Chris Gifford, co-creator of Dora the Explorer The live show, NICK JR.’s DORA THE EXPLORER LIVE! SEARCH FOR THE CITY OF LOST TOYS is an interactive adventure that leads Dora, our 7 year old Latina heroine, Boots the monkey, Diego and many of Dora’s friends on a fun-filled adventure. This two act, song and dance spectacular with larger than life costume characters opens in Melbourne’s State Theatre before travelling to Sydney’s Theatre Royal, Brisbane’s Playhouse, QPAC and on to other major cities around Australia. With help from the audience, Dora and her courageous friends use their musical, language, math and reasoning skills to navigate their way through the number pyramid, the mixed-up jungle and other locations in order to find Dora’s missing teddy bear Osito in the City of Lost Toys. Dora fans in Australia are sure to enjoy this all-new family theatrical experience that invites kids to think, sing and play along. NICK JR.’s DORA THE EXPLORER LIVE!
