Email Friend Contact Author (EntertainWire.Org) – One of the hottest selling games in the world has sparked intense gamer competition to be crowned the best, according to video gaming scorekeepers Twin Galaxies.
A 1-life "Extreme Rules" challenge on New Super Mario Bros. Wii has seen five new World Record scores verified and posted in the Twin Galaxies database in just a 13-day span from January 5th to January 18th, with JD Lowe of Columbus, Ohio taking the top spot as of this writing with a score of 1,820,410 points, beating previous champion Mark Paap of the Netherlands who held the record for three days with a score of 1,355,730 points. Paap himself took the record off of another Ohio gamer, David Archey, who also held the top spot for three days. Canada's Thomas Trovato held the record on January 12 for only 20 minutes before Archey's score was verified and posted. Under Twin Galaxies rules for New Super Mario Bros. Wii, gamers must start a brand new game from the start and run up as many points as possible on only one life withouth re-entering stages they have previously completed. Once Mario loses one life, the Extreme Challenge is over and the score is taken at that time. Gamers must record their games in full from before the boot-up and loading of the Wii console and submit them to Twin Galaxies database. Recordings can be submitted for record and rankings consideration by DVD, videotape, multimedia file or live witness by a Twin Galaxies official. New Super Mario Bros. Wii is just one of thousands of video games that Twin Galaxies serves as the official scorekeeping organization for, on everything from other Nintendo Wii titles such as Wii Fit Plus, Wii Sports Resort, as well as titles for the XBox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo DSi, and classic consoles and arcades.
